Kıyı bölgeleri dış kıyıda sürüntü maddesi, iç kıyıda sürüntü ve askı maddesi biçiminde sediment taşınımına maruz kalır. Kıyıya eğik olarak yaklaşan dalgalar kıyı-deniz yönünde sediment taşınımı yanında kıyıboyu taşınımına da sebep olurlar. Kıyı-deniz yönü sediment taşınımı kısa dönem kıyı profili değişimlerinde etkili olduğu halde, kıyıboyu taşınımı uzun dönemdeki değişimlerin en önemli nedenini oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada kıyı bölgelerindeki sediment hareketlerini etkileyici ve belirleyici nitelikteki bazı temel bilgiler sunulmaktadır.

The coastal regions are subjected to the sediment transportation as bed load in the inshore zone, and as bed and suspended load in the offshore zone. When waves approaching the coast obliquely they cause sediment transport in on-offshore direction as well as longshore direction. While on-offshore sediment transport is effective for the short term coastal profile changes, the longshore transport is responsible for the long term variations. In this study, the basic information which affects and governs the coastal sedimentation is presented.
