The use of water treatment lime coagulation sludge as an adsorbent for the removal various dyestuffs
In this study, adsorption properties of the water treatment sludge generated from lime-coagulation process has been investigated as an adsorbent for the removal of Basic Blue 41 and Lanaset Yellow 4GN dyestuffs. Initial sorption tests showed that both dyes adsorbed by ferric sulfate sludge. Data from equilibrium studies were applied to both Langmuir and Freundlich models and related constants were determined for each dye. For the dye-sludge system, Basic blue 41 fit both models while Lanaset Yellow 4GN was only described by Freundlich model. Kinetic studies were also performed for various initial dye concentrations. The kinetics of sorption has also been analyzed by three kinetic models. It was found that overall process was best described by the pseudo second order model. Gibbs free energies for both dyes were also calculated and negative values were found.
