Meningococcemia in children: Report of four cases

Neisseria meningitidis is an encapsulated Gram negative diplococcus that causes a spectrum of disease ranging from benign self-limited infection to fulminant septic shock. Despite major advances in pediatric intensive care, specialized transport of critically ill children and the universal availability of antibiotic therapy, meningococcemia remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality in our country and worlwide. Four cases of meningococcemia with different presentations and treatment regimens are presented.
