Bu makale, uzun süredir ihtiyaç hissettiğim, sosyal politika alanındaki akademik çalışmaların nereye doğru gittiğine ilişkin sınırlı bir değerlendirme. Bu konudaki duyarlılığımı da, yalnız politika ve uygulamaların değil, aynı zamanda akademik çalışmaların da ülkedeki sosyal politikanın anlamı ve boyutlarını yapılandırdığına ilişkin düşüncemle açıklayabilirim. Bu nedenle, bana göre, sosyal politika alanındaki akademik yönelimlere ilişkin bir sorgulama, yalnız çalışmaların boyutları değil, aynı zamanda ülkedeki anlayışların gelişimi açısından da önemli. Hiç kuşku yok ki, bu çalışma sınırlı bir araştırmaya dayalı ve böyle bir tartışma açısından ancak bir giriş olarak düşünülebilir. Çalışma, esas olarak, alandaki tezler, Çalışma ve Toplum Dergisi’ndeki yazılar ile Bölüm Kongreleri ve Sosyal Haklar Sempozyumlar’ına sunulan bildirilerde ele alınan konuların gözden geçirilmesine dayalı. Yine de ve sınırlılığını gözden ırak tutmasak da, akademik çalışmaların kapsamı ve dolayısıyla alanda çalışanların sosyal politikaya ilişkin anlayışlarındaki sınırlılıklar konusunda bazı sonuçlara varılabilmekte. Hepsinin ötesinde, akademik çalışmalarda ekonomi politiğin ihmal edilişi yadsınamaz bir gerçek olarak ortaya çıkarken, akademik alanda ve toplumda sosyal politikaya ilişkin anlayışların yapılanmasındaki sınırlar ve kısıtlar konusunda bizi uyaran bu gerçek üzerine düşünmekten kaçınamayız diye düşünüyorum

This article is a limited evaluation related to the direction or tendency in the social policy studies, what I really need to discuss for a long time. I may explain my sensitivity towards the subject with the consideration, that not only the politics and implementations but also the academic studies build the meaning and the dimensions of the social policy in a country. Therefore, according to me, a questioning related to the academicians’ orientation in the social policy studies becomes important not only for the extent of the studies bur also for the improvements of the understandings. There is no doubt that this study depends on a limited investigation in the area, and can be only considered as a beginning for such a discussion. Nevertheless, even with keeping in mind the limitation of the study, it is possible to reach to some conclusions such as the limitations in the coverage of the studies, which also show the limitations in the understandings regarding the social policy. Among all, while the negligence of the “political economy” in the studies comes into sight as an indisputable reality, I think we cannot avoid thinking on this reality, which warns us the limitations and restrictions in the building of academic and social understandings
