The Relationship Between the Thyroid Functions and Basal and Resting Metabolic Rates

It is known that thyroid hormone can modulate energy expenditure. Especially serum triiodothyronine (T3) is thought to be effective in metabolic control of energy homeostasis. However, the exact mechanisms that underlie this effect in adults remain unclear. In this review the relationship between thyroid hormones and basal and resting metabolic rates were reviewed.
