Changes in Chemical Compounds of Nonimpregnated Pine Specimens used in Water Cooling Towers

Nonimpregned Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris), Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra) and Carribean pine (Pinusbrutia) specimens measuring 2x2x30 cm were used in water return systems at water cooling tower.Duration of the exposure of specimens to return water was 9 months. The changes in the chemical composition,lignin, cellulose and hemi-cellulose of the control specimens were measured in the 3rd, 6th and 9th month duringthe study. At the end of 9 months period, the increases in all the chemical composition had been occured. Thisshould caused by reason that wood extractives dissolved in the water. As a result, for the control specimenssignificant color change, odour and surface softenning was observed.
