The Family of Cruciferae from Past to Present: Systematics and Phylogeny

In the Cruciferae family, which was first validly published with a Latin description by Jussieu, the suprageneric classifications made without considering the large homoplasies observed in fruit, embryo and trichome characters are highly artificial and have a very limited value in the phylogenetic and taxonomic studies of the family. Developments in the field of molecular biology and bioinformatics have revolutionized the plant systematics and phylogenetic field, especially in the Cruciferae family, which is economically and ethnobotanically important. Although the relationships of the main lineages in the family were largely illuminated by the molecular studies conducted, detailed information on the relationships of the taxa at the tribal level has not been established yet. For establishment of the suprageneric classification, molecular studies are needed using more markers and involving large number of taxa.
