The Turk Ata Nation and Comparative Folk Custtoms

Since Turkic civilization first appeared in the history, the Turk Ata nation has been its important part both for the role it played at the crossing of the Prophet’s period in history with the prehistory of Turkic civilization and for the place it preserved in the memory of Turkic nations. Nowadays, the Turk Ata object, as it is memorized, is continuing its existence in the form of various oral constituents of a culture, such as myths and poetry at the first place. This research of the Turk Ata nation, which is found to be spread throughout the Turkestan and population of which is counted to be about one and a half million, considers those people of the Turk Ata nation, who are residing in Kyrgyzstan’s village Turk Abat, which has never been a subject of research before. The Turk Ata people in the study are considered from the view of their folk customs, which are compared with that of other Turkic nations, by finding differences and similarities. Based on the results of the mentioned comparison, it may be suggested that folk customs of the Turk Ata people, along with being impacted by the customs prevailing in the new geography of inhabitation, are taking place amongst the written and oral sources of the history of the Turkic culture. If reckoned that the term Turkic has been borrowed from Turk Ata, that it is a part of the Turkic civilization and that the geography of the Turkic culture came to existence in this way, we believe that this research, with cultural codes taken in the essence of the study, shall further trigger other versatile researches on this issue bringing the light to the central and northern regions of Turkestan, and thus shall better elucidate the history of Turkic nations
