ESTiMATES OF PHENOTYPIC PARAMETERS.SUMMARYThe effect of same' importantenviromental factors on fl·eececharacteristıcs, body weight atshearing and the traits characterizınglactation mil k yield of matureMorkararnan ewes raised ın AtatürkUniversity far,m ın Erzurumt;ave been estimatedl. There haveheen used 670 {for 4 years), 591(for 3 years) and 583 (for 3 years)production records respective Jy.The main purpose of this studywas to determine the possibilityof Morkararnan sheep improvementth~ough selectianThe effects of year, age andyear x age interaction on productiontraits'were analysed by the methad of least-squares presentedby Harvey (1960). In addition, covarianceanalyses were used to eliminate the effects of individual period alfferences on total milk yi~Id. maximum daily milk yield, ar.verage daily mlik yielô, butter fatyield and to test the significanceofthese environmental factorsoThe variance components dueto enviromental factors were ,estimatedby the complate least-squaresanalyses.The least-squares means ofgreasy fleece weight, clean fleeceweight, staple lenght, body'Neight at shearing. total milk yield, maximum daily milk yield, averagadaily milk yield. butter fatyield and milking period of mature(2-6 years old) Markaraman.ewes were 1428:::22 g; 984± 16 g117=1.3 g; 53.6 ±3.1 Kg; 79354,± 1698 ml; 1072 ± 18 'ml; 560±9 ml; 4067 ± 112 g and 140± 1.4 days respectivelyMqrkaraman ewes generallyyielded less than the other nativesheep breeds for aLi the studiedproduction traits, except bodyweight at shearing A noticeablephetlOtypıc variation. esp~ciallyin the milk yield traits was ,observed.Non-signffjcant environmentalfactors were found on greasyfleece weight and clean 'fleeceweight, The effects of years ontotal milk Yield, average dailymilk yield were sigr:ıfıcant (p:! < .05)but not on stapile length. butter fatyield and milking period werehighly significant (p < .01). Agehad significant effect (p< .05) onstaple lenght and highly significant(p<.01) effect on butter fatyield. While the effect of age x yearinteraction on total mill... yield wassignificant (p <·05), but not on bodyweight at shearing average dallymlik yield and maximum dailYmilk yield was highly sigJlificant(p < .01).The part due to the effects ofenvironmefltal factors was 9 percent in staple length, 17 per centin body weight at shearing, 17 percent in total milk yield, 14 percent in maximum daily milk yield,24 per cent in average dailymilk yield, 16 per cent in butterfa.t yield and 45 per cent in milk·ing period. It was deteı mined bythe covariance analyses that theeffect due to environmental fac·tors on total milk yield, maximumdaily milk yield, averag~ daily milkyield and butter fat yield Wer'e37, 28, 52 and 27 per cent respectively. In the analyses o~ covariance, the environmental factors, i. e,years, ages and regression hadhighly significant (p < .01) effecton all the studied mi'!k characteristics. The least-squeres meansby the covariance analyses for totalmilk yield, maximum daily mıik'yield, average .daily milk yield andbutter fat yield were 79996 ± 5393;1078±69; 560:±46 and 4110± 327 respectively
