“İlkel” savaşın görünümleri: Claude Lévi-Strauss ve Pierre Clastres arasındaki irtibatlar ve ihtilaflar

“İlkel” toplumlarda savaşın anlamı ve işlevi konusunda 1971 yılındaki anlaşmazlığa kadar, 20. yüzyılın iki önemli antropoloğu Pierre Clastres ve tez danışmanı Claude Lévi-Strauss arasında oldukça yakın bir ilişki söz konusudur. Eserlerinde ilkel toplulukların mübadele üzerinden okunmasından ilkel şeflik kurumunun tanımı ve işlevine kadar pek çok konuda paralellik bulunmasına rağmen bu ikili, ilkel savaş hakkındaki pozisyon alışları itibariyle birbirlerinden ayrılarak antropolojik spektrumun farklı kutuplarına yerleşirler. Bu makale, Clastres ve Lévi-Strauss arasındaki irtibatları ve ihtilafları gayrişahsileştirerek makro düzeye taşımakta, 2. Dünya Savaşı sonrasında antropoloji disiplini içindeki dönüşümlerin ve cereyanların, bir altdisiplin olarak siyasal antropolojinin ortaya çıkışını dolayımlayan koşulların bütün özelliklerini haiz bir pars totalis olarak takdim etmektedir. Claude Lévi-Strauss ile Pierre Clastres arasındaki irtibatlar Paris’teki Labaratoire d’anthropologie sociale arşivlerinde yer alan yazışmalarından, ihtilaflar kısmı ise metinlerinden ve polemiklerinden hareketle kaleme alınmıştır.

Aspects of “Primitive” war: Connections and conflicts between Claude Lévi-Strauss and Pierre Clastres

Until the disagreement in 1971 about the meaning and function of war in "primitive" societies, there was a very close relationship between the two important anthropologists of the 20th century, Pierre Clastres and his thesis advisor Claude Lévi-Strauss. Although their works show parallelism in many issues, from the reading of primitive societies through exchange to the definition and function of the primitive chiefdom institution, these two differ from each other in their positions on primitive war and settle at different poles of the anthropological spectrum. This article depersonalizes the connections and conflicts between Clastres and Levi-Strauss to a macro level and presents as a pars totalis with all the characteristics of the transformations and events within the discipline of anthropology after World War II, the conditions mediating the emergence of political anthropology as a sub-discipline. The connections between Claude Lévi-Strauss and Pierre Clastres were written based on their correspondences in the archives of Labaratoire d’anthropologie sociale in Paris, and the disagreements part, on the other hand, is written on the basis of their texts and polemics.
