Ameliyathane çalışanlarında lateks allerjisi sıklığının araştırılması

Amaç: Son yıllarda lateks alerjisinin sağlık çalışanlarında giderek artan oranlarda saptandığı bildirilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı sağlık çalışanlarında lateks alerjisi sıklığını ve risk faktörlerini belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Yaşları 20-58 yıl (ortanca 29) arasında değişen 121'i erkek ve 87'si kadın toplam 208 sağlık çalışanı çalışmaya alındı. Tüm sağlık çalışanlarına bir anket formu dolduruldu. Ardından tüm olgulara iki ticari lateks solüsyonu ile birlikte sık rastlanan aero-alerjenlerle prick yöntemi ile epidermal cilt testi yapıldı. Lateks spesifik IgE düzeyleri REAST yöntemi ile ölçüldü. Bulgular: Sağlık çalışanlarında lateks alerjisi % 12,5 oranında saptandı. Lateks alerji oranı bayan cinsiyette (% 69.2) erkeklere (%30.8) göre daha yüksek idi (p=0.005). Frequency of natural rubber latex allergy among aperating room personnel

Objective: The latex allergy has been increasingly recognized in recent years, especially among health care workers (HCW). The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of latex allergy in HCWs. Material and Method: A total of 208 (121 male and 87 female) HCWs aged between 20 and 58 (median:29) years were included in the study. All employees were invited to complete a questionnaire and undergo skin prick tests with common aeroallergens and two commercially available latex test solutions. The latex specific IgE measurement was performed with REAST method. Results: Latex allergy was determined as a rate of 12.5% of HCWs. The prevalence of latex allergy was higher in female (69.2%) than in male (30.8%) (p0=0.005). A history of high fever, asthma, hand eczema, angioedema, dental medication and food allergy was significantly higher in latex allergic HCWs (p<0.05). The specificity and sensitivity of the questionnaire and the skin prick test were found to be high for determining the latex allergy while the sensitivity of IgE was found to be low in this study. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the frequency of latex allergy was high in the atopic, female and dental medicated HCWs. The use of a questionnaire and skin prick test will be helpful to determine the latex sensitivity in HCWs and can be preventive for life-threatening allergic reactions.
