The relationship between eating attitude and behaviors with self-esteem of the university students
Giriş: İnsan sağlığını olumsuz yönde etkileyen davranışların arasında yeme bozuklukları önemli bir yer almaktadır. Üniversite öğrencileri, yaş ve çevre ile ilgili yaşadıkları psikososyal sorunlar nedeniyle risk grubunu oluşturmaktadırlar. Okul ve sosyal yaşamlarında başarı, hastalık oluştuysa tedavisi ve yaşam kalitesinin iyileştirilmesi için riskli grupların saptanması yol göstericidir. Yöntem: Öğrencilerin beslenme tutum ve davranışlarını etkileyeceği düşünü- len sağlıkla ilgili ve estetikle ilgili bölümleri kapsayan iki fakülteden, Marmara Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri ve Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi nde okuyan öğrencilerden (s=450) tesadüfi örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilerek planlanmış kesitsel bir çalışmadır. Yeme Tutum Testi ve Rosenberg Özbildirim testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: İki fakülte öğrencilerinin (%39.9 kız, %60.1 erkek), benlik saygısı düzeyi puanlarından özellikle, eleştiriye duyarlılık, depresif duygudurum, babayla ilişkide ve kişilerarası ilişkilerde tehdit hissetme puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel yönden anlamlı bir fark bulunmasına rağmen, beden kitle indeksi değerlerinin ortalamaları ve Yeme Tutum Testi puanlarının arasında anlamlı bir fark saptanmamıştır. Yeme Tutum Testine göre 30 puan ve üstü ile 30 puan altı olarak iki kategoriye ayrılan öğrenciler karşılaştırıldığında, sağlıkla ilgili fakülteye devam edenlerde; eleştiriye duyarlılık, psikosomatik belirtiler, kişilerarası ilişkilerde tehdit hissetme, anne-baba ilgisi, baba ile ilişki, psişik izolasyon alt başlıkların puanların ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel yönden anlamlı bir farklılık saptanmıştır. Sanatla ilgili fakülteye devam edenlerde ise insanlara güven duyma, psikosomatik belirtiler, baba ile ilişki alt başlıkların puanların ortalamaları arasında istatistiki yönden anlamlı bir farklılık saptanmıştır. Tartışma: Çocukluk döneminden başlayan beslenme alışkanlı- ğının, aile otoritesinin kalkmasından sonra, üniversite yıllarında farklılaştığını, subklinik yeme bozukluklarının tarama programları ile saptanarak, erişkin dönemde karşılaşılacak sağlık sorunlarının önlenmesinde faydalı olacağı düşünülmektedir.
Üniversite öğrencilerinin yeme tutumları, davranışları ve özbildirimleri arasında ilişki
Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between eating attitude and behaviors, selfesteems of the university students due to their age, psychosocial issues related to the environment. Methods: For his purpose, it was evaluated the eating attitude and behaviors in two different faculties of the same university (n=450). A cross-sectional random sampling method with the questionnaire was performed including demographic information, the Eating Attitudes Test and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Test was administered. Results: As a result of statistical analysis a statistically significant difference of the eating attitude test scores with age, weight and average height. It didnt show significant difference between the mean scores of BMI values and mean scores of self-esteem levels. The students were grouped according to cut-off scores of the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-40) and detected the statistical significant differences between the means of Rosenberg Self-Esteem Test subgroups scores (the self-esteem levels, relying on other people, interpersonal relationships to threats, participate in discussions and psychic isolation). Conclusion: Consequently, the significant relationship was not observed among students studying in different department of education who have eating disorders about their self-esteem risk. Students which studying in health-related department were more sensitivity than other group in the evaluation of eating attitudes and behaviors. (Anatolian Journal of Psychiatry 2015; 16(6):397-404)
