Kuzey Kıbrıs'ta ilaçla özkıyım girişimi üzerine bir araştırma: 2002-2012 yıllarının veri analizi

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı 11 yıl boyunca Kuzey Kıbrıs Lefkoşa Burhan Nalbantoğlu Devlet Hastanesi Acil Servisine ilaç ile özkıyım girişimi sonrası başvuran 2334 olgunun özelliklerinin incelenmesidir. Yöntem: 2002-2012 yılları arasında Kıbrıs Lefkoşa Burhan Nalbantoğlu Devlet Hastanesi acil servisine başvurmuş olan tüm hasta dosyaları retrospektif olarak taranarak ilaç ile özkıyım girişiminde bulunduğu saptanan 2334 olgunun yaş, cinsiyet, özkıyım girişim tarihi verileri analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular: Hastaların %64.1i (s=1497) kadın ve %35.9u (s=837) erkekti. Özkıyım girişiminde bulunan hastalarda kadın/erkek oranı 1.79du. Hastaların yaş ortalaması kadınlarda 25,80±11,36, erkeklerde 27,94±12.44dü. Kadın hastaların yaş ortalaması erkek hastalara göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde düşüktü. Daha sık özkıyım girişiminde bulunma yaşları kadınlarda 16-22, erkeklerde 18-24 ve tüm örneklemde 18-22 yaştı. Tüm hastaları değerlendirdiğimizde yaş aralığının 12-92, ortalama yaşın 26,57±11,8 olduğu görülmektedir. Yıllara göre özkıyım sayılarına baktığım ızda 2002 yılında 183, 2003 yılında 158 olan özkıyım girişimi sayısının 2004den itibaren yükselmeye başladığı görülmektedir. Sonuç: Özkıyım girişimlerinde kadın erkek oranı Japonya verilerine daha yakın olarak 1.79 olarak bulunmuştur. Kıbrıs örneklemindeki farkın kadınlarda çalış- ma oranının yüksek olması ve küçük bir adada zorlayıcı yaşam koşullarının daha az olmasından kaynaklandığı söylenebilir. Bu çalışmadaki örneklemin yaş ortalamasının literatüre göre daha düşük olması gençlerin içinde bulun- dukları olumsuz durumlarda yetişkinlere göre daha derin bir ümitsizlik ve çaresizlik yaşamaları ve özkıyımı bir çözüm olarak görebilmeleri ile ilişkilendirilebilir. Özkıyım girişimi sayılarının 2004 yılından itibaren artmaya başlama- sının olası nedenlerinden birinin referandumun sonuçları olabileceği değerlendirilmiştir.

A research on suicide attempt with drug overdose in North Cyprus: data analysis of 2002-2012

Objective: The aim of the study was to analyze the properties of 2334 cases who applied to North Cyprus Nicosia Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital with suicide attempts by drug intoxication in 11 years. Methods: This study has been conducted by analyzing age, gender and suicide attempts dates of the files of 2334 cases retrospectively, who applied to Cyprus Nicosia Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital with suicide attempts by drug intoxication between years 2012-2012. Results: 64.1% (n=1497) of patients were female and 35.9% (n=837) were male. The female/male ratio was 1.79. The mean age of women and male patients were 25.80±11.36 and 27.94±12.44 respectively. The mean age of women compared with men was statistically significant low. Women attempted suicide more often between ages 16-22, this range was 18-24 for men and 18-22 for whole subjects. When we analyze all subjects together age range was 12-92, mean age was 26.57±11.80. The numbers of suicide attempts were 183 in 2002, 158 in 2003 and started to increase by 2004. Conclusion: The female/male ratio was 1.79 of suicide attempts similar to Japan data. The difference of Cypriot sample may be related with higher employment ratios in women and less stressful life events in a small island. The lower mean age of this sample compared with the literature might be related with low coping styles, hopelessness and despair of young people in negative life events. One of the possible causes of the beginning of increase in suicide numbers in 2004 can be the results of the referendum.
