Kronik ve ölümcül hastalığı olan çocuk ve ergenlerde ruhsal sorunların tanınması ve yönetilmesi

Çocuklukta kronik hastalık, daha sonra ruhsal sorunların gelişmesinde çok önemli bir risk etkeni olmaktadır. Geçici bir hastalığı olan çocuklardan farklı olarak kronik hastalığı olan çocuklar hastalığın kalıcı olduğu ve daha da kötüleşebileceği gerçeğiyle başa çıkmak zorundadır. Çocuklar, hastalık ve tedavi sürecinin belirsiz olmasından duygusal olarak olumsuz etkilenir. Kronik hastalıkların anne-babaların ruh sağlığı üzerine de önemli etkileri vardır. Bundan dolayı tedavinin uygun bir şekilde yapılabilmesi için fiziksel bakımın yanında çocuklar ve anne-babalarının ruh sağlığına da doğru yaklaşım gereklidir. Tedavinin etkili olması ve uygun girişimlerin yapılabilmesi için çocuklar ve anne-babaları ile destekleyici iletişim kurmak önemlidir. Ek olarak çocukların bilgilendirilme ve desteklenmesi gereksinmesinin karşılanması için çocukların hastalık, hastaneye yatma ve ölüm konusundaki anlama düzeyinin bilinmesi gereklidir. Bu yazıda kronik ve ölümcül hastalığı olan çocuk ve ergenlerde karşılaşılan ruhsal sorunların tanınması ve yönetilmesi ile ilgili literatür bilgilerinin gözden geçirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca çocukların yaş dönemlerine göre hastalık (neden, önleme ve tedavi), hastaneye yatış ve ölüm kavramından ne anladığını belirleyebilecek bilişsel ve gelişimsel özellikleri ve tedavi ekibinin dikkat etmesi gereken konular incelenmiştir.
