Altmış beş yaş üzerindeki kişilerde bilişsel durumun günlük yaşam aktiviteleri, yaşam kalitesi ve demografik değişkenlerle ilişkisi: Bir alan çalışması

Amaç: Yaşlılık döneminde bilişsel durum ile günlük yaşam aktiviteleri, yaşam kalitesi, sosyodemografik değişkenlerin ilişkisini saptamak amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: 01 Haziran-16 Ağustos 1999 tarihleri arasında, Kocaeli ilinde iki sağlık ocağı bölgesinde 144 kişi üzerinde yüz yüze anket yöntemiyle çalışılmıştır. Anketle beraber Temel Günlük Yaşam Aktiviteleri Ölçeği.(TGYA), Yardımcı Günlük Yaşam Aktiviteleri Ölçeği (YGYA), Nottingham Sağlık Profili ve Standartlaştırılmış Mini Mental Test (SMMT) uygulanmıştır. Analizler SPSS paket programında yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar: SMMT'e göre şiddetli bilişsel bozukluk % 6.9, orta derecede bilişsel bozukluk % 25.7 olarak bulunmuştur. Association between cognitive status and activities of daily living, life quality and some demographic variables in older than 65

Objective: To determine the associations between mental status and activities of daily living and some sociodemographic variables in elderly people. Method: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 144 elderly people older than 65 years in areas of two primary health care units in Kocaeli between June 1-August 16, 1999. In the study, standardised Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) questionnaire, Basic Activities of Daily Living Scale (BADL), Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale (IADL) and Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) were administered by an investigator. The analysis was carried out with SPSS package program. Results: It was determined the severe and mild cognitive disorders 6.9 % and 25.7 %, respectively according to the MMSE. The MMSE questionnaire was significantly higher in elderly people who 're'white collars, "well" income by self-report and "good" perceived health. It was also found that elderly people belonging "social security foundations" has lower MMSE points comparing to the people belonging the other health security systems. The MMSE questionnaire was significantly correlated with education year (r=0.28), the number of children (r=-0.16), NHP activity scale (r=-0.20) and NHP sleep scale (r=-0.21). According to multiple regression analysis, association was found between MMSE questionnaire and NHP activity scale, NHP pain scale, NHP emotional status scale, age, and education year. Conclusion: The cognitive status in elderly people is associated some socioeconomic variables especially education and health profile.
