Strawberry growing opportunities in soilless culture

Soilless agriculture technique in the world is being used prevalently in developed countries like Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Japan. In our country, this technique has gained acceleration in last 5 years, has been adopted by producers and has become prevalent in products such as tomato and pepper. Besides, the prohibition of methyl bromide in soil disinfection has been the most important reason of this prevalence. This technique allows production to be made in soils where agriculture can not be made and therefore it allows these areas to be evaluated. The most important advantage of soilless culture technique is that seedling number per unit area is high ad therefore efficiency gained from unit area is high. Especially in studies made with strawberry, 10-15 plants per m2 can be planted and the efficiency per unit area increases accordingly. Besides, thanks to this technique, the requirement for water, fertilizer, pesticide and insecticide is lower and there is no need to use herbicide at all. The environmental conditions of the production being made by computer control allows high quality product to be obtained.
