Social Skills Assessment Scale-Parent Form” for Preschool Children: A Scale Adaptation Study

: In this study, it was aimed to test if the “Social Skills Assessment Scale-Teacher Form” for preschool children, which was developed by Aksoy (2014) based on teacher evaluation, is suitable for parent evaluation. The “Social Skills Assessment Scale-Teacher Form” comprises of5 dimensions (communication, adaptation, self-control, prosocial behaviors, and assertiveness) and a total of 44 items. The structure that was defined by means of confirmatory factor analysis was tested and construct validity evaluation of the assessment tool was performed, and Cronbach’s Alpha (α) coefficient value was reviewed for reliability analysis. The study group consisted of 838 children, 60-72 months old, attending preschool education and their parents. The data, obtained in this line, was transferred to SPSSand was subjected to confirmatory factor analysis AMOSprogram. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis related to the first level and second level multi-factor model showed that X2/df value explains a fit (from medium to perfect level). It was found that RMSEA value means perfect fit as well as The CFI, GFI, AGFI and RMR values indicate good fit. NFI value also explains a fit (from good to acceptable). With reference to the Cronbach’s Alpha (α) coefficient for determining reliability, these values were determined: α=.79 for the communication dimension, α=.82 for the adaptation dimension, α=.73 for the self-control dimension, α=.75 for the prosocial behaviors, α=.74 for the assertiveness dimension, and α=.89 in total. As a conclusion of the analyses and evaluationsperformed within this framework, it was revealed that the Social Skills Assessment Scale-Parent Form is a valid and reliable assessment tool for the preschool children
