Adaptation of Science Motivation Questionnaire into Turkish

The purpose of this study is to adopt the scale, which aims to determine students’ science motivation degree and motivation types of them, developed by Glynn, Brickman, Armstrong, and Taasoobshirazi (2011) into Turkish. The original form of the scale is in English, has five sub-dimensions and 25 items. First of all, the scale was translated into Turkish by linguists and then translated into English by other linguists. After that, the Turkish form of the scale was administered to 617 middle school students from fifth grade to eighth grade. The data was analyzed by Exploratory Factor Analyses (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA) to reven the construct validity of the scale. Cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated in order to test the reliability of the scale and found as .83. As a result, the Turkish form of thescale consists of 22 items and 5 sub-factors, which are intrinsic motivation, career motivation, self-determination, self-efficacy and grade motivation. Eventually, it was concluded that the scale in Turkish is valid and reliable as a result of its adaptation to Turkish.
