Content Analysis of PhD Theses on Anchored Instruction

The aim of this study is to analyze the content of doctoral theses related to anchored instruction which is one of the application models of constructivist approach. A total of 24 doctoral theses completed between the years 1993 and 2017 were included in the content analysis process. The theses were examined according to various variables and the results of the content analysis were presented with graphs and tables containing the frequency and percentage ratios. According to the results obtained, most of the doctoral theses related to anchored instruction were studied in the USA, Austin Texas University and the University of Kentucky between tests, questionnaire, observation form, interview and transfer tests were used more than other tools and purposeoriented scales were developed. It was determined that as a sample, the students from undergraduate, secondary levels and students with learning disability/disabled students took part in the first three ranks; the number of samples is between 31 and 90; t-test was used mostly in the analysis of data; the number of pages of the theses is between one hundred and two hundred pages. When the general results that the theses reached are examined, it is seen that anchored instruction increases student motivation and success, improves problem solving skills, has a positive impact on high level thinking and decontextualization skills, is the best approach in the development of transfer skills, is effective in foreign language and mathematics teaching, , supports language development, integrates technology in the classroom, is effective in developing pre-service teachers’ professional skills, increases critical thinking, problem solving skills and academic achievement of students with learning disabilities and mild disabilities, poses a positive effect on attitudes and perceptions towards science in problembased learning and is liked as a teaching-learning model. It is recommended that by giving emphasis on studies that promote anchored instruction in Turkey, more studies on this topic might be done and academic articles might be analyzed and included in future studies. 2006 and 2010. It was determined that quantitative method and experimental designs were used; achievement
