The Effect of Augmented Reality Applications on 6th Grade Students’ Academic Achievement in Cell Subject
In this study, the effect of augmented reality (AR) applications on 6th grade students’ academic achievement in the teaching of “Cell” subject was investigated. The research was carried out as a pre-test and post-test single group experimental design. The sample group of the study consisted of 76 sixth grade students studying in the city of Ankara in 2017-2018 academic year and determined by random sampling method. In the experimental process of the study, the lessons were taught by using question and answer teaching method, direct instruction technique. In this process, AR applications were used when it was required. In the study, Cell Achievement Test (CAT) developed by Timur et al. (2019) was used as pre and post test. Data obtained from CAT was analyzed and a statistically significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test. It was seen that the scores obtained increased in favor of the post-test due to the important role of AR applications. As a result, this finding showed that AR applications affected the student's achievement positively and it was interpreted as AR applications can contribute to the increase of students’ motivation and attention span on course so this may naturally have caused this finding to arise. Since AR applications are one of the technologies that have just started to be used in the field of education, the relationship between these technologies and education can be examined in terms of different variables in future studies.
