Evaluation of the 5th Grade Social Studies Course Curriculum according to the Eisner Educational Criticism Model

The aim of this study is to evaluate the curriculum of the 5th grade Social Studies course in 2017- 2018 academic year by means of Eisner Educational Connoisseurship and Criticism Model. The research was carried out in line with the opinions of eight teachers who were working at four different secondary schools in Zonguldak. The semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers was used as a data collection tool. Content analysis technique was used in data analysis. The findings of the research, which is a qualitative study, were presented in the sub-dimensions of "Description ", "Interpretation", "Evaluation" and "Thematics" in Eisner Educational Connoisseurship and Criticism Model. The findings of the study show that the 5th grade Social Studies course curriculum was considered generally positive by the teachers participating in the study, but the findings indicate that there are some problems such as the inability to include student-centered activities in practice, the high number of the units, the insufficient time allocated, the crowded classes and technical equipment. However, it is thought that the curriculum will be transformed into a more effective form by overcoming the problems in the implementation phase through regular evaluations related to the curriculum.
