GENERAL AND ORGANIZTIONAL CYNICISM LEVEL OF HEALTH CARE EMPLOYEES WORKING IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS IN ANKARA

The purpose of this study is to determine the cynicism and organizational cynicism levels of health care employees in private hospitals in Ankara and to reveal the relationship between them. The sample of the study includes 242 health employees, who agreed to participate in the study, working in 10 private hospitals in the center of Ankara. In this study, a questionnaire consisting of three sections and 35 questions was used to collect data. The first part includes 11 questions related to socio-demographic and professional characteristics, the second part consists of the general cynicism scale, and the last part consists of organizational cynicism scale. Data analysis was performed via Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, independent samples t-test and One-Way ANOVA test and Pearson correlation coefficient. The mean general cynicism scale score was calculated as of 3.29 ± 0.65 and the mean organizational cynicism scale score was 2.71 ± 0.82. It is possible to say that the general cynicism and organizational cynicism level of employees are medium. It was determined that there were a weak positive correlation in a statistically significant level among general cynicism score and total organizational cynicism score (r = 0.431) and its subscale scores (cognitive r = 0.393, affective r = 0.386, behavioral r = 0.381) (p<0.05). The cynicism level of employees vary according to their satisfaction level from work, age, marital status, the total duration of professional experience and the working duration in their current institutions (p<0.05). The level of organizational cynicism of employees shows statistically significant differences in terms of age, their satisfaction level from work, departments and the total duration of professional experience (p<0.05). In the results of study, considering that the cynicism and organizational cynicism level of employees who are younger and having less professional experience are higher, some recommendations were presented to hospitals.
