Tele-Medicine and Tele- Health Use In Endocrinology Practice

New technological developments improved medical care by facilitating better diagnosis and treatment choices, and also better communication opportunities between doctor and patients. Together with all other medical branches, the developments in tele-health and tele-medicine affected endocrinology practice. Since diabetes mellitus has increasing prevalence and high costs because of mortality and morbidities, tele-medicine applications have generally concentrated on diabetic patient care in tele-endocrinology. Tele-medicine care provides many benefits such as better patient education, glycemic control, decreased acute and chronic complications of the disease. Insulin pump-users and the patients with continuous glucose monitoring systems could be easily adapted and they may benefit from close follow-up with this technology. Gestational diabetes patients and elderly people or home-care patients may have easy way to reach the doctor. By the help of tele-radiology, tele-ophthalmology and telepathology, thyroid and adrenal diseases, and hypophyseal tumors may also be followed and these may be new areas in tele-endocrinology
