THE ASSESSMENT OF OUT-OF-SCHOOL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS: ADAPTATION OF THE CONSTRUCTIVE MUSEUM LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS SCALE TO TURKISH

This research aims to adapt the scale named "Museum Constructivist Learning Environment Survey (M-CLES)" into Turkish and to study its validity and reliability. In the adaptation of the scale, the steps of determining the needs, obtaining permissions, language translation, translation comparison, back translation, language validity, pilot application, and actual implementation were followed. 123 (62.1%) girls and 75 (37.9%) boys, who visited a science center, participated in the research. Participants’ ages are between of 9 and 16, 4th-10th. The original scale consists of 25 items and 5 dimensions. The KMO value of the scale was calculated as 0.904. After the data were collected, confirmatory factor analysis was performed (χ²/df = 1.89, GFI = 87, IFI = .85, CFI = .92, NFI = .77 AGFI = .82, NGI = .85 and RMSEA = .06) and the reliability of the scale was determined. Cronbach's Alpha internal reliability coefficient (a = .915) was calculated for the analysis. The “Constructivist Museum Learning Environments Scale (Y-MÖÖÖ)” consists of 5 dimensions and 21 items and including "curriculum", "personal interest", "uncertainty of science", "critical view", "student communication". It showed that it is a valid and reliable tool that can be used to evaluate student-centered practices.
