Removal of a dental bur displaced into maxillary sinus: A Case Report
It is not uncommon to see foreign bodies of iatrogenic origin in the maxillary sinus during dental treatment. In the present report, a 29 year old female patient was referred to our department with the complaint of continous headache and pain in the extraction socket of her right upper wisdom tooth which was extracted a week ago in a private dental clinic. In the clinical and radiological examination, images compatible with the dental bur was detected in the right maxillary sinus. Under general anesthesia, right maxillary sinus was reached with Caldwell Luc method and the dental bur was removed. Complications such as maxillary sinusitis can be prevented by determining the type and location of the foreign body and removing it as early as possible. In this case report, it is aimed to present the clinical diagnosis and treatment of a patient with accidental displacement of a high speed handpiece bur to the maxillary sinus.
