Bu çalışmada Van ili Erciş yöresi sığır ve koyunlarında serum demir ve total demir bağlama kapasitesi değerleri belirlenmiştir. Demir ve total demir bağlama kapasiteleri değerleri sığırlarda 0-2 yaş grubunda sıra ile 423+6.8 mcg/100 ml, 166.7±28.6 mcg/100ml, 2-6yaş grubunda 70,5+27.6mcg/100 ml, 248.0+144.00 mcg/100 ml, koyunlarda da 0-1 yaş grubundada yine sıra ile 131.6±36.2 mcg/100 ml, 250.0+52.0 mcg/100 ml, 2-4 yaş grubunda 139.1+15.6 mcg/100 ml, 236.1+29.8 mcg/100 ml bulunmuştur. Yaş grupları arasında istatistiki yönden önemli bir fark saptanamamıştır.

Iron and total iron-binding capacity values in cattle of 0-2years old were found to be 42,3+6.8 mcg/100 ml, 166.7+28.6mcg/100ml in 0-2years old; 79.5+27.6 mcg/100 mlr 248.0+44.00) mcg/100 ml in 2-6 years old, respecıivcly in sheep of 0.1 old year values 131.6+36.2 mcg/100 ml, 250.0+52.0 mcg/100 ml, and in 2-4 years old 139.1  ± 15.6 mcg/100 ml, 236.1+29.8 mcg/100 ml respectively.The difference between age groups was not found to be significant statistically. The results obtained were dissussed by comparing them with values in literature. Further studies are rcquired to determine the reasons for low values obtained
