Bu çalışmada, dönemin Trabzon Valisi Sırrı Paşa tarafından Mabeyn-i Hümayun’a sunulan bir rapor çerçevesinde Trabzon vilayetinin 1876-78 yıllarına ait erkek nüfus verileri ele alınmıştır. Bu bağlamda üç yıllık süreçte doğum-ölüm oranları, yıllık nüfus değişimi ve nüfusunun dini dağılımı gibi hususlar üzerinde durulmuş, mevcut verilerden bazı çıkarımlar yapılmaya çalışılmıştır. Bölgeye ve döneme ait önemli bir demografik kaynak olan bu istatistikler, vilayet salnamelerinde bulunmayan istatistikleri ortaya koymak ve eksik bilgileri tamamlamak imkânı sağladığı gibi, idari yapı hakkında da fikir vermektedir. Bu bakımdan söz konusu nüfus verileri, 1877-78 Osmanlı-Rus Savaşı sonrası büyük göç dalgasının başlangıç döneminde Trabzon vilayetinin demografik yapısına dair önemli ipuçları sunmaktadır.

This study deals with the official documentary report pertaining to the male population of Trabzon Province between 1876-78, which was delivered to The Imperial Mabeyn (Mabeyn-i Hümayun) by Sırrı Pasha, the governor of Trabzon at the time. Within this context, the present study aims to analyze and discuss the rate of birth and death, the annual change of population and the distribution of population. These statistics belonging to the area provide us with a significant demoghrafic source and present new statistical data that has not appeared in the chronicles so far. These documents also present relevant information about the structure of the government. In this respect, the data under consideration, reveals the various features of population at the beginning of the great emigration movement after The Battle of Ottoman Empire- Russia broke out.
