Sosyal Hizmet Öğrencilerinin Suçlulara Yönelik Algılarının Değerlendirilmesi

Artan suç oranları ile birlikte suçluluğun önlenmesi ve suçluların rehabilitasyonu gibi konular öne çıkmaktadır. Bu durum sosyal hizmet mesleğinin adli mekanizmada daha etkin şekilde yer almasını gerekli kılmaktadır. Bu noktada doğrudan suçlularla çalışmak durumunda kalan sosyal hizmet profesyonellerinin suçlulara yönelik algıları ve bakışları önemlidir. Zira toplumda değersizleştirilme ve damgalanma konusunda dezavantajlı olan bu gruplara yönelik olumsuz algı ve bakışlar sosyal hizmet uzmanlarını da etkileyebilmektedir. Bu da onların suçlulara yönelik müdahale ve yaklaşımlarını olumsuz yönde etkileyebilir, toplumdaki adalet duygusunun sarsılmasına sebep olabilir. Bu çalışmada ileride suçlularla çalışma potansiyeli olan sosyal hizmet öğrencilerinin suçlulara yönelik algılarının ne yönde olduğu ve hangi değişkenlerden etkilendiği araştırılmak istenmiştir. n=432 kişilik bir örneklemle yapılan çalışmada, katılımcıların suçlulara yönelik algılarının ne olumlu ne de olumsuz olduğu saptanmıştır. Ekonomik durum ile suçlulara yönelik eğitim almış olmak suçlulara yönelik algı ile ilişkilidir. Ekonomik durumu yüksek olanların ve suçlularla ilgili ders alanların algıları daha pozitiftir. Bu bağlamda suçlulara yönelik olumsuz algının engellenmesinde sosyal hizmet bölümünde okuyan öğrencilerin suçlularla ilgili eğitimler almasının önemi belirtilmiş; adli bilimler, kriminoloji, adalet mekanizması, viktimoloji gibi derslerin yaygınlaştırılması gerektiği vurgulanmıştır.

The Evaluation of Perceptions of Social Work Students toward Criminals

With the increase in crime rates, issues such as crime prevention and rehabilitation of criminals have become more prominent. This condition entails the necessity of the social work profession to play a more effective role in the judicial mechanism. At this point, perceptions and perspectives of social workers working directly with criminals are very significant. Because negative perceptions and attitudes towards criminals who hold disadvantaged positions in terms of devaluation and stigmatization in society may affect social workers, too. This may adversely influence the interventions and approaches of social workers towards criminals; and lead to a broken sense of justice in society. This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of social work students, who may work with criminals in the future, towards criminals and to analyze predictor variables. In the study, conducted with a sample of n = 432, it was found that the participants’ perceptions about offenders were at a moderate level. Additionally, economic situation and receiving courses on criminality had a correlation with the perceptions towards criminals. Studensts who hold a higher level of economic status and received preliminary courses on criminality had more positive attitutes towards offenders. In this scope, it is suggested that in order to prevent any negative attitudes towards criminals, social work students should be trained about criminals; and courses such as forensic sciences, criminology, justice mechanism and victimology should become more prevalent in social work departments.
