Quality of Work Life Scale for Healthcare Personnel: Development, Validity and Reliability

The aim of this paper is to develop a valid and reliable quality of work life scale which can be used to identify the quality of work life of healthcare personnel. In the development of the draft scale, initial items were prepared according to results of other surveys related to quality of work life. The scale was administered to 207 healthcare personnel in Ankara Metropolitan area. Factor analysis was conducted in order to determine the construct validity and results showed that the scale has 6 factors, and its items, in terms of total item correlation changed between 0.20 and 0.57, in terms of factor loading changed between 0.58 and 0.83. Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient was calculated as 0.882 for the overall instrument. The findings showed that the developed ‘quality of work life evaluation scale’ was valid and reliable. Based on the results, it was recommended that the scale should be administered on healthcare personnel working in other cities and regions to assess the overall quality of work life in Turkish health care settings.
