Bu amaçla, örneklem grubunu oluşturan 56’ sı kız (28’i normal gelişim gösteren, 28’i engelli), 56’sı erkek (28’i normal gelişim gösteren, 28’I engelli) toplam 112 çocuğa, araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan soru formu, bireysel görüşme tekniği kullanılarak uygulanmıştır.

Examination of Normal and Exceptional Children’s Perceptions of Each Other and Themselves

The importance of preschool education is an undeniable truth. The basis of children’s personality, manner and behaviors that will be effective in the children’s life are created in this period. Because of this, the content and quality of the education that will be given to the child in this period is important. Especially, considering “being handicapped” as a social subject, it is highly important to inform children about this issue in preschool period. To prepare the programs about “being handicapped” more consciously and carefully, it is important to have pre-knowledge about the perceptions of children with normal development (CND) and children with special needs (CSN) about each other and themselves. Thus, starting from the knowledge of children, more sufficient and suitable information can be given to them. For this purpose the sampling group is created from 112 children, 56 boys (28 children have normal development, 28 exceptional children) and 56 girls (28 children have normal development, 28 exceptional children). In this study, a question form is prepared by the researchers to present the children’s perception style of each other and themselves. The form is applied by individual interview technique. The results of the research show that most of the children (CND:21, CSN:27) give the definition of “Child” by emphasizing the “little” concept. Also the results show that most of the children (CND:31, CSN:27) can not make the definition of “Exceptional Child”. It is also found out that children can make the definition of “physically handicapped” easily among other handicapped types because of its concrete and observable properties.
