SOSYAL HİZMET UYGULAMALARINDA EMPATİNİN ÖNEMİ VE YARDIM İLİŞKİSİ ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ

Bireylerin sosyal işlevselliklerini arttırarak sosyal değişim sağlamayı amaçlayan sosyal hizmet, insana hizmet veren diğer disiplinler gibi insanların iyilik hallerinin gelişmesini ve devamını sağlamak amacıyla hizmet veren bir yardım mesleğidir. Empatinin sosyal hizmet uygulamalarındaki önemi ve yardım etme davranışı üzerindeki etkisini konu alan çalışmalarda genellikle empatinin yardım etme davranışı üzerinde anlamlı bir etkiye sahip olduğu bulunmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda, kadınların erkeklere oranla empati ve yardım puan ortalamalarının daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. “Şefkat Bağlamında Empati” alt ölçeğinin cinsiyet değişkeni açısından anlamlı bir farka neden olduğu görülmüştür. Elde edilen bu bulgular şekat bağlamında kadın sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının erkek sosyal hizmet uzmanlarından daha fazla empati kurduklarını göstermektedir (p<0,05). Lisans sonrası meslek içi eğitim alanların empati ve yardım puan ortalamalarının arttığı görülmüştür. Çalışma süresinin ve yaşın artması ile birlikte sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının yardım etme davranışlarının azaldığı, ancak empati becerilerinin arttığı saptanmıştır. Empatinin ve yardım etme davranışının eğitim ilegeliştirilebileceğini gösteren bu araştırma ile sosyal hizmet uzmanlarına, ilgili derneklere ve sosyal hizmet akademisyenlerine bazı öneriler getirilmiştir.

THE IMPORTANCE OF EMPATHY IN SOCIAL WORK PRACTICES AND ITS IMPACT ON HELPING RELATIONSHIP

Social work is a helping profession that, as other professions working with people, aims to achieve social change by increasing an individual’s social functioning, enhancing and maintaining people’s wellbeing. In previous researches on the importance of empathy in social work practices and its efect on the helping behavior usually have found that empathy has a signiicant efect on the helping behavior. In conclusion, empathy and helping mean scores of women were determined to be higher than men.“Compassionate contextual assessment (CCA)” sub-scale was shown to cause a signiicant diference in terms of the gender variable. According to these indings, female social workers showed more empathic reactions than men with respect to compassion (p<0,05). Mean scores of empathy and helping among the social workers who had postgraduate professional education, was found to be higher. With the increase of work experience and the age of social workers, there was decrease in helping behavior butan increase in empathy skills. his research shows that empathy and helping behavior can be improved by education and makes pertinent recommendations and suggestions to social workers, social workers’associations and academicians accordingly.
