While the hotel and tourism vocational schools are considered as the main source of the employees needed by the tourism industry, it is also thought that they fail to educate students with the right qualifications expected in the industry. Therefore it is vital to determine the qualifications of the students at the schools and compare these qualifications with expectancies of the Tourism Industry. In order to determine and compare these qualifications, first it was determined expectancies of the Tourism Industry by examining front desk departments online job advertisements at five star hotels in Turkey and was determined qualifications of the 11 and 12th grade students of hotel and front office department in Anatolia Hotel and Tourism Vocational Schools in Izmir via questionnaire prepared in the light of this expectancies. The needs of hotel industry and the qualifications of students were compared descriptively with in consecutive part. In the result of comparing, it has determined that i) age criteria, status of military service, education level and work experiences are the drawbacks for the students to get application for hotel industry and ii) students’ proficiencies to use front office automation software don’t adequately meet expectations of managers in the hotel industry. In the light of the findings of the study, suggestions for the education policy makers and future research issues are presented.
