Ottoman Lapseki and it’s Architectural Buildings

Lapseki (antique Lampsakos), strategically located on the north side of the Çanakkale Strait, in the shore of Anatolia, was conquered by the Turks in the early 14th century. For the transition from Anatolia to the Gallipoli peninsula, this city is serves as a major port and today many of the structures of its built during the Ottoman period has been disappeared now. Among these the citadel, Tower of Emin Süleyman, imâret and mosque belongs to the Foundation of Uzbek, Karavansarai of Cerrah Hamza, city hans, a bathhouse and namazgah hill can be considered. The Mosque of Gazi Süleyman Paşa (Ulu Mosque – was built up in the mid of 14th cent.) was renovated in 1896-1897, which is one of achieve to come up to these days. The mosque is depending on the tradition of Kufa plan and has a simple architecture, which it seems to be only niche of the mihrab and base of minaret is original. The remains of the small bath on the eastern side of mosque is "mansion bath" type and can be dated to the late 19th - early 20th century. The Sherife Ayşe Hatun fountain (1768) among the city’s fountains, is similar to the 18th century provincial examples. Although, other fountains in the city is dating the late Ottoman period, do not show a remarkable feature in terms of architecture.
