Review Process

Manuscripts of all kinds undergo a blind review process involving a panel of three reviewers.  The authors usually receive the first outcome of the review process within two months.

Due to the nature of the double-blind reviewing procedure, the authors are requested to submit two versions of their manuscripts: (a) The complete version including the author names, affiliations, and full addresses along with the paper; (b) a blinded manuscript without any author information in the text or on the title page.  Self-identifying citations and references in the text should either be avoided or left blank.

When received a manuscript, the editor assigns three reviewers in the same or relevant area and requests them to review the manuscript by using the evaluation form of the journal.  The reviewers send their reviews within a month to the editor. Then, the editor makes a decision based on the reviews and informs the author(s) about the outcome.  If revisions are requested in the manuscript for possible publication, the author(s) complete their revisions until an “accept” decision is made.  In case of final decision to publish the paper, the editor informs the author(s) about the volume and issue in which the article will appear.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts should be submitted through the submission procedures of the Contemporary Educational Technology.

Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published before; it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; its publication has been approved by all authors, and if necessary, by the responsible authorities where the work has been carried out.  The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Manuscripts should preferably be submitted in the Microsoft Word format according to the Authors’ Guidelines of the journal and the Writing Template provided. All submissions should be made to:


Authors who wish to include tables, figures, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers.  Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors and the publisher of the journal will not be responsible for the consequences.

Title Page

The title page of the manuscript should include:

A concise and informative title for the paper (10-15 words)

The name(s) of the author(s)

The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)

The telephone, fax, and e-mail information of the corresponding author


The abstract should be about 150-200 words.  The abstracts of the research papers should include the purpose, methodology, and results; while the abstracts of theoretical papers should provide general framework, special contributions to the literature, and major conclusions.  The abstract should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references.



The manuscript should provide 4-6 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes. The keywords will also help identifying the relevant sub-field of the article within educational technology.


The manuscript should provide a brief biography (1-2 sentences) for each author included in the paper. This information should indicate main areas of specialization for each author.


Headings should accurately reflect the organization of the paper.

The author(s) should use no more than three levels of displayed headings. 

Numbers should not be used to indicate levels of headings.

All headings of the same level should appear in the same format.


Paragraphs should be neither too long nor too short; each paragraph should be longer than a single sentence but no longer than one manuscript page.


Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.  Unnecessary abbreviations should be eliminated and necessary ones should be explained in clear terms.

Units of Measurement

Metric equivalents for all non-metric units should be provided. Also, all metric and non-metric units with numeric values should be abbreviated when possible.


The text of the paper should be prepared according to the Authors’ Guidelines of the journal, which is available on (website of the Contemporary Educational Technology).


All tables should be numbered using Arabic numerals.

Tables should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.

Each table should supply a table heading. The table heading should explain clearly and concisely the components of the table.

No punctuation should be placed at the end of the caption.

The authors should identify any previously published material by giving the original source in the form of a reference at the end of the table heading.

Footnotes to tables should be indicated beneath the table body.


All figures should be numbered using Arabic numerals.

Figures should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.

Figure parts should be denoted by lowercase letters.

Each figure should have a concise caption describing accurately what the figure depicts.

Captions should begin with the term Figure and continue with a figure number.

No punctuation should be placed at the end of the caption.

The authors should identify previously published material by giving the original source in the form of a reference citation at the end of the figure caption.

Figure size should fit the column width of the journal.

Video Files

All videos should be submitted as RealMedia formatted files.  Videos should be identified in the text as “Video 1”, “Video 2” etc. Author(s) should provide a link to the video within the article.

Audio Files

All audio files should be submitted as RealMedia formatted files.  Audio files should be numbered consecutively in the text as “Audio 1”, “Audio 2” etc.  Author(s) should provide a link to audio files within the article.



All supplementary materials not falling under the definition of a table or figure should be considered an appendix. Appendices should be placed at the end of the manuscript, after the reference list.



Footnotes on the title page are not given reference symbols. Footnotes to the text are numbered consecutively; those to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data).


Page Length

Articles exceeding 8,000 words (about 30 double-spaced or about 20 journal pages) in length are unlikely to be published unless they are of exceptional significance.

Submissions that successfully present the research in 5,000 words are particularly welcome.



References should be cited in the text by last name and year in parentheses.  For quotations, page number should be indicated after the year of the publication. The last name, year, and page number should be separated with commas.



The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication as well as papers presented at scientific conferences.  Text citations and reference list entries should agree both in spelling and in date. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text.  Footnotes and endnotes should not be used as a substitute for a reference list.

Reference list entries should be in alphabetical order by the last name of the first author of each work. In general, the APA Style Manual should be complied.



Acknowledgements of persons, grants, funds, institutions etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.



Articles and abstracts must be in English.  The proper use of English in the manuscript is important; if there are many language mistakes in the manuscript that create serious difficulty in reading the material, such manuscripts will not even be considered for review and the author(s) will be asked to re-edit their manuscripts.  In such cases, the author(s) is/are encouraged to have their manuscripts checked by professional language editors.

Proof Reading

The purpose of the proof is to check for typesetting or conversion errors and the completeness and accuracy of the text, table and figures.  Substantial changes in content are not allowed without the approval of the editor.  After online publication, further changes can only be made in the form of Erratum, which will be hyperlinked to the article.


The author(s) should generally consult to the APA Style Manual for all the other matters not mentioned here. Alternatively, those who have questions about policies of the journal can write to for answers and clarifications.
