Julia Kristeva’nın, Abject (İğrenç) kavramının ben ve öteki, ben ve ben’i dışlayan kadavra anlayışı üzerinden ilerleyen düşünsel süreç, İvana Bašić’in “Abject Art” çalışmalarından örneklemelerle sürdürülecektir.

In the Frozen Metamorphose of a Cadaver Watching Gaze and Obscene-Gaze

This text focuses on the meaningless, undefined, and ambiguous position of the cadaver between life and death. It is based on the self, the other, the non-self relationship in everyday life determined by mutual relationship. The phases of the corruption and decay of the dead body, on the one hand, reveals abominable abjection, while on the other hand, the strange appeal of the deterioration, the inner-outward, catches the eye of the person who faces him. The watching gaze that emerges as a control mechanism between "I" and the "other" in society evolves into obscene-gaze in the confrontation with the cadaver/stranger/monstrous one. The intellectual process of Julia Kristeva's concept of Abject (Disgusting), which is based on the cadaver understanding that excludes "I" and the "other", I and non-I, will be continued with examples from the works of Abject Art by Ivana Bašić. At this point, the main purpose is to show how abject in life creates the relationship with life and death in an obscene way and that art creates obscene and the same effect on the alienated person's overcoming existing boundaries. The dull metamorphosis state brought about by death and decay becomes synonymous with the slippery and slimy tissue in Bašić's work, exhibiting a metamorphose between human and beast and settles threateningly into a life that is undefined and meaningless.
