An Approach for Preventing Violence at Schools: Resiliency

Violence at schools has become an importantproblem to the society. The spread of violence atschools and around its environments, the studies onpreventing and on decreasing the violence has gainedmuch more importance. Most of the programmes onprevention of violence of children and teenagers, tryto define “risk factors” which effect, violence risk andalso “ protective factors” which may reduce the risksin question. In recent years, the importance of“Resiliency” has been realised as a part of theprogrammes, which aim to decrease the behavioursat level of high risk. The term “Resiliency”, presents anew and different point of view to understand howchildren, teenagers and adults can be strong innegative life conditions. The literature on risks andresiliency, underline the necessity for improving thecapacity of dealing with the problems confronted inschools, and providing opportunities and environmentfor the people to improve themselves at social, academic areas and also at vocational adequacy for aqualified life. The researches on violence at schoolsand resiliency; considering the needs for children andteenagers to gain positive personal characteristics, notes the necessity for personal sufficiency to helpthem in solving their problems when they confrontnegative life conditions. The goal of this research is todiscuss the resiliency, which also includes the risk andprotective factors in the respect of prevention ofviolence seen among the students at schools. Withthis aim, the term “violence” has been explained;violence seen among the students at schools hasbeen discussed; and the activities, which provide theresiliency in order to prevent and/or decreaseviolence, have also been emphasized.
