THE ACTIVITIES OF THE AMERICAN BOARD MISSIONARIES IN AINTAB AND THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF AINTAB

Throughout the 19'" ce11!U1J' many Christian 111issio11a1:i1 groups perfor111ed activities i11 the Ottoman land, fiwn which the most active ones were the American Protestant missionaries. One of the most important bases that the American missionaries who carried on their activities with the i11sfifufio11s such as ch11rches, schools etc., they had co11sfr11 cted 011 the diverse parts of the cou11!1 J1, chose in the A 11 atolia was A i11tab. The most i111porta11t i11 stit11tio11 of the Americans who established many frn111datio11 s after having appointed Ai11tab as their 111issio11 center, was the A111erica11 College of Ai11tab. Th e college wasfo1111ded i11 1876 and it was ahvays i11 volved i11 the Ar111 e11ia11 111ove111ents since then. The college which was used as a headquarters by the occupying fo rces during the invasions, broke out a.fier World War!, was 111ovedfi·o111 Aintab to 1-!alep in 1924 after The Turkish National Struggle.
