Osmanlı Devleti‟nin Birinci Dünya Savaşına girişi ve bunun nasıl bir süreçte ve hangi koşullarda gerçekleştiği konusu yakın tarih açısından son derece önemlidir. Çünkü Birinci Dünya Savaşı, altı asırlık Osmanlı Devleti'nin tasfiyesiyle sonuçlanmıştır. Mondros Mütarekesi'nin daha mürekkebi kurumadan başlayan ve Sevr'in yolunu açan yabancı işgal ve müdahaleleri ise Türk İstiklal Harbi'ni doğurmuştur. Yıkılan büyük devletin enkazının altından bağımsız bir Türkiye, Atatürk önderliğinde yıllarca süren ve büyük özverilerle kazanılan Milli Mücadele ile kurulmuştur. Bundan dolayıdır ki, Osmanlı Devleti'nin savaşa girişi belki de savaşın kendisinden daha fazla tartışılmıştır. Olayları geriye döndürüp yeniden yaşama imkânı yoktur. Ancak yaşananları iyi tahlil etmek, bunlardan ders alıp bu gün daha doğru kararlar vermeye çalışmak Türk milletinin vazifesidir. Zaten Türkiye Cumhuriyeti, bu olaydan gereken dersi almış, II. Dünya savaşına girmemiştir
