THE VOCAL PROGRESS OF OPERA PERFORMANCE STUDENTS AND WAYS TO PREVENT THE ADVERSE CONSEQUENCES DURING THIS PERIOD

In the evolutionary process, along with the increasing mental developmentcapacity, humans not only discovered the ability to use their voice, but also, as socialbeings, they developed new communication ways as well as many other abilities, andlearned speaking. Singing started with humans’ imitating sounds of species’ voicesin nature. With the development of the art of singing, humans who want to reveal theirpain, happiness, and love, can do so through songs. Singing has become one of the artforms that brings out the best efforts of one’s self-expression. The art of opera hasdeveloped in such a quest for self-articulation. The human voice, the main instrument ofthis art, is used quite beyond its natural limits. Since vocal cords are physiologicallylocated within the body, they can be affected by diseases and often wear out quicklywhen used incorrectly. Therefore, vocal training also requires great care andresponsibility. In this article, in vocal training methods for opera, general informationregarding methods considered correct to be followed by the trainer was given inaddition to problems that may be encountered as a result of improper training methodsand techniques to protect voice health. Furthermore, the throat’s structure and voicebreathsystem were briefly mentioned, coupled with a discussion on the cause-effectrelationship about the necessity of vocal training on the subject. As a result, indicatorsof a trained voice were revealed in the light of this information. In this study, literatureresearch was used as a method, and at the same time, this information was alsoconsolidated with the students’ development process observed during vocal training.Thus, this study was aimed to create resources for colleagues working in this field.
