YOUNG PEOPLE’S EVALUATION ON THEIR FAMILIES’ AND THEIR OWN CLOTHES CONSUMPTION HABITS: A STUDY ON STUDENTS ATTENDING IN NEVŞEHIR UNIVERSITY, FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCES

Shopping for clothes with family is one of the most important socialization activities in childhood. For this reason, there are lots of studies in literature about children’s shopping for clothes with their parents. But there is a gap in literature about how young people evaluated their parents’ clothes consuming habits. This study was carried out by applying a questionnaire to the students between the ages of 18-26 who accepted to take part in the research and who are attending the first grade lessons in Nevşehir University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The students were wanted to evaluate themselves, their mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters in terms of following the fashion, the number of clothes that they own, the time that they spend for shopping for clothes, the budget allocated to clothes and social appreciation. It was seen in the study that the students generally positioned themselves in the middle of the family in terms of these dimensions. Furthermore, it was found out that they defined themselves more similar to their parents than their sisters or brothers when they were asked sorting questions related to defining clothes consumption
