Although the lifetime prevelance of social phobia is very high, studies about finding its etiological roots are relatively less. In this present paper etiological studies about social phobia were presented in five headings: (1) genetic factors, (2) behavioral inhibition, (3) family factors, (4) explanations based on attachment theory, and (5) emotional and cognitive constructions. The aim of the paper was to collect the scientific studies discussing the etiology of social phobia in certain headings and guide the following research on that disorder.
