Doğu ve Batı kiliselerinin ayrılış nedeni olarak genellikle 1054 yılında Papalık delegeleri ile İstanbul'daki ruhban sınıfının ileri gelenleri arasındaki tartışmalar gösterilmektedir.  Ancak bu tarih iki tarafın karşılıklı olarak afarozlaşmalarının ve ayrılığın resmileştirilmesinin tarihtir. Halbuki Hristiyanlığın Doğu ve Batı, Katolik ve Ortodoks olarak ikiye bölünmesi uzun bir tarihi sürecin sonucudur. Makalede bu süreç hakkında bilgi verilmekte, ayrılışın nedenleri ortaya konmaya çalışılmaktadır. 

The reasons for the departure of the Eastern and Western churches are generally  stated the discussions in 1054 between the Papal Delegates and the leaders of the clergy in Istanbul. This date, however, is the date of the mutual apostasy of the two sides and the formalization of the split. However, the division of Christianity into East and West, Catholic and Orthodox are the result of a long historical process. In this article, it is informed about this process and the causes of the departure are tried to be revealed.
