Silahlanma yarışı, iki devlet veya devletlerarası oluşturulan birlikler arasında silahlanma konusunda yaşanan dinamik süreç olarak tanımlanır. Bu süreçte bir devletin savunma harcamasını artırması, yarış içinde olduğu düşünülen diğer devletin de savunma harcamasını artırmasına sebep olmaktadır. Silahlanma yarışı hipotezi birbiri için tehdit unsuru olan birçok ülke arasında test edilmiştir. Türkiye ve Yunanistan’ın geçmişten gelen gerginlikleri nedeniyle birbirleri için tehdit unsuru olabilirler. Bu çalışmada, görünürdeki bu tehdit unsurunun silahlanma yarışına dönüşüp dönüşmediği araştırılmıştır. Türkiye ve Yunanistan arasındaki silahlanma yarışı hipotezi, 1960-2015 dönemi için Hacker-Hatemi-J Bootstrap nedensellik ve ARDL sınır testleri kullanılarak incelenmiştir

The arms race is defined as the dynamic process that is an armament between two states or interstate formed units. Increasing defense spending by a state in this process causes the other state, which is thought to be in the race, to increase defense spending. The arms race hypothesis has been tested among many countries that are threats to one another. It may be a threat to each other due to the past tensions between Turkey and Greece. In this study, it was researched whether this apparent threat turned into the arms race. The arms race hypothesis between Turkey and Greece was examined using Hacker-Hatemi-J Bootstrap causality and ARDL bound test for the period 1960-2015
