The Privatization of the Railway Service in Britain on the basis of the Provision and the Organization of the Service

Conservative Governments of Britain in 1980s and 1990s claimed that the privatization of the railway service would result in higher competition, efficiency rates and quality of the services and inreduction of the public expenditures. In practice, however, these dreams of Conservatives have not come true entirely. Privatization has resulted in new monopolies, reduction of the quality of services and of infrastructure and in increase of the transportation prices, operation costs of the private enterprises, and the public subsidies. It has also caused security problems. This paper discusses the privatization process and its results between 1979 (the year that M. Thatcher came to power) and 2010 (the end of G. Brown‟s government) on the basis of provision and organization of the service
