Biometric Identity Verification In Health Services: A Biometric Surveillance Practice In Turkey

Determination or verification of identity with biometric methodshas a widespread use especially at borders for security reasons. SocialSecurity Institution transferred the biometric identity verificationpractice to health sercives that are provided by private and universityhospitals. The risks of the new system considering the privacy ofpersonal data are under debate. Although there are announcementsor manuals of Social Security Institution regarding the implementationand legislation for data sharing and security exists, lack of a nationaldata protection law brings with it security gaps.
