Socio-Demographic Analysis of Fear of Crime in the United States

This study analyzes the correlates of socio-demographic factors to fear of crime among the U.S adults. Using data derived from General Social Survey in the U.S, the impact of socio-demographic factors on fear of crime was analyzed with a sample of 850 adults. According to the results of Binary Logistic Regression analysis, selected as an appropriate method to evaluate the relationship between the variables, participants with higher income are less likely to have fear of crime. Males are likely to have less fear of crime than women. Blacks and other races are more likely to have fear of crime in comparison to Whites. Lower social classes are more likely to have fear of crime. Finally, TV watching hours, age and education are found to have no significant impact on fear of crime.
