Üniversiteler, Sosyal Bilimler Ve Sivil Toplum

Öz Müphem bir kavram olan sivil toplum bu kavram ile yüksek eğitim arasındaki çelişkili ve belirsiz bağlantılar kadar aynı zamanda kendisinin çok yönlü anlamlarını da içermektedir. Tanımı yapan kişiye bağlı olduğu için sivil toplum hem pozitif ve negatif içerikli tanımlamalara sahip olabilir. Kavram, planlı bir ekonomiden farklı olarak bir piyasa ekonomisini ve anti demokratik bir toplumdan farklı olarak demokratik bir toplumu belirtebilir. Kavram aynı zamanda ülke içinde sivil iken ülke sınırları dışında sivil olamayan bir toplumu belirtebilir. Sivil toplum, kişisel, ulusal ve uluslararası düzeyde demokrasiye katılıma aday olmalıdır. Fakat ulusal varlıklar olarak üniversiteler sıkça toplumda sivilliğin azalmasına ve şovenizm, hoşgörüsüzlük, ırkçılık ve muhtemel etnik temizlik sürecine katkıda bulunmuşlardır. 1990’lı yılların Yugoslavyası’ndan örnekler verilebilir. Yine de üç köklü yaklaşıma, bilgi ve “ötekini” anlamaya, geniş bir çerçevede ahlaki eğitime ve eğitim duygusallığına dayalı öğretme ve öğrenmeye doğru uygun bir tutum ile gerçek sivil toplumun özü olan tolerans ve barış için bir lokomotif ortam yaratılabilir.
