Bu çalışmanın amacı, yabancı sermaye yatırımlarının CO2 emisyonu düzeyi üzerine olan etkisinin sorgulanmasıdır. Çalışmada, söz konusu ilişki, 12 üst gelir grubuna dahil ülkenin 1970-2012 yılları arasındaki verileri kullanılarak, sistem GMM yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Gerçekleştirilen analizde yardımcı açıklayıcı değişkenler olarak enerji tüketimi ve kişi başına düşen gelir kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonuçları, üst gelir grubuna dahil ülkelerin yaptıkları yabancı sermaye yatırımı ile CO2 emisyon düzeyleri arasında istatiksel olarak anlamlı, negatif yönlü bir ilişkinin olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca bulgular enerji tüketimi ile CO2 emisyon düzeyi arasında pozitif yönlü bir ilişki olduğu görüşünü desteklerken, üst gelir grubu ülkelerinde kişi başına düşen gelir artışının ise CO2 salınımını azalttığını ortaya koymaktadır.

The aim of this study is to question the impact of foreign direct investments upon the level of CO2 emission. This mentioned relation was analyzed via using the data which belongs to the countries in 12 high level income groups for the period as 1970-2012, by the system GMM method. In the performed analysis, energy consumption and per capita income were chosen as explanatory variables. The results of the analysis show that there exists a statistically significant and negative relation between the foreign direct investment, which is rooted from by the high level income countries, and the levels of CO2 emission. Besides, the findings support the existence of a positive relation between the energy consumption and CO2 emission level . On the other hand, they states that the increase of per capita income reduces the CO2 emissions in high level income countries.
