Toplumsal kurumlar; toplumsal yaşamın oluşması, örgütlenme, istikrarlı bir düzenin kurulması, toplumsal bütünlük ve bir arada yaşayabilmenin imkân ve olanaklarını sağlama gibi önemli fonksiyonlar icra ederler. Bu nedenle toplumsal kurumları tanımlama ve değerlendirme, toplumu anlama çabasının önemli bir adımıdır. Medinede Müslümanların göç etmesiyle birlikte yeni bir değişim süreci başlamıştır. İlk İslâm toplumunun ve medeniyetinin inşa süreci olarak da tanımlanabilecek bu değişim sürecinde dini, siyasi, eğitim, aile ve ekonomik kurumların bütüncül bir nazarla ele alındığı görülmektedir. Hz. Peygamber ve Müslümanların aktif çabalarıyla toplumun değişimi ve kurumların yeniden inşa ve yapılandırılması görülmektedir. Toplumsal değişimin sadece din eksenli olmadığı, bu çerçevede toplumsal kurumların inşasıyla geniş manada İslâm medeniyetinin temellerinin atıldığı da görülmektedir.

The social institutions perform important functions like the formation & organization of social life, establishig a stable level, provision of possibilities and facilities of social cohesion and living together. That's why defining and analysing the social institutions is an important step towards the efforts of understanding a nation. With the migration of Muslims to Madina a new process of change started. It is observed that during this process of change; which can be defined as the process of formation of first Islamic Society and Civilization; religious, political, educational, family and economical institutions are delt with from totalitarian point of view.The change of society, restablishment and configuration of institutions have been observed with the active efforts of Prophet and Muslims. This has also been observed that social change was not only religion-axis and in this frame of formation of social institutions basics of Islamic civilization have been founded.
