Katılımcıların her birinin “Bilim … gibidir, çünkü …

Secondary and High School Students’ Metaphors about the Concept of Science

This study investigated the metaphors that secondary school students (n=374) and high school students (n=134) formulated to describe the concept of science. Data was collected through the participants’ completion of the prompt “Science is like . . . because . . .” by focusing on a simile. Quantitative procedures were utilized to analyze the data of the study. According to the results, overall participants produced 153 valid personal metaphors about science. Based on these metaphorical images, 13 conceptual themes (categories) were identified. These categories are problem solving, dynamism, labor, application resources, production, guide, value, ready supply, tools, eternity, requirements, the criteria of application and development. The number and quality of metaphor of secondary and high school students’ are different. Both of secondary and high school students’ metaphors were found a positive. There's almost no negative metaphor in students’ statements
